Halfway between Buenos Aires and the great national parks of Patagonia, there’s a rather flat splay of land connected to the mainland by a slender isthmus called Carlos Ameghino. While the peninsula itself looks pretty inhospitable to wildlife - apart from armadillos, the odd Patagonian hare and ostrich-like rheas - its shores offer a front row seat for an exceptional display of marine life. Elephant seals, sea lions, Magellan penguins, and all kinds of sea birds populate its shores.
