If you are a warm weather worshipper, Thailand at Easter is the place for you. In fact, April is the hottest and driest part of the year, meaning the cities are often blisteringly hot and the islands coastlines are beautifully tropical. Although cities are pretty sweaty at this time of year, Songkran festivities are worth the discomfort during one of our Thailand Easter holidays. Chaing Mai is home to the largest celebrations, with dazzling processions, refreshing water fights and colourful costumes filling the streets for a whole week. Khao San Road (Bangkok) is the undisputed hub of the modern Songkran celebrations where an electric and wild carnival atmosphere fills the city as smiling crowds enjoy the festivities. During these Easter celebrations, it’s easy see why Thailand’s nickname is ‘The Land of Smiles’.

When the soaring temperatures become too much and heat-stroke threatens to set in, it is time to head to Thailand’s slightly cooler tropical coastlines and islands. The Lower Gulf Islands of Ko Samui, Ko Tao and Ko Pha Ngam are the best islands to beat the heat. Although temperatures still soar into the high 30s, the aquamarine waters of the Gulf of Thailand make for the ultimate spot to cool off and relax.
