MONTANA - DREAM LIFE ON THE RANCH

The accommodation we have chosen is a real-life ranch, set in the rolling prairies of Montana, with the peaks of the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop and the north-west border of Yellowstone Park a few miles away. There's no trace of civilisation for miles around, you are just surrounded by breathtaking nature and an idyllic river. The 24 log cabins, scattered across the property, mostly date back to the first days of the ranch, which started in 1910. Since then, there have been endless renovations to ensure guests have the perfect stay, while maintaining the ranch's original feel and style. There's a Wild West vibe inside with wide armchairs, fabrics featuring checks and Native American patterns, wood stoves and leather stools.
It's authentic but with a little added luxury. And almost everything is included. The food is delicious, classic American cuisine with a modern twist. Enjoy evening barbecues like in the movies and breakfast in a cabin perched at the top of the ranch. There's also riding, archery, canoeing, mountain biking, early morning yoga sessions, cooking classes and tours with a nature guide in Yellowstone Park for the Big Five: moose, grizzly bears, black bears, bison and wolves... Add a rafting adventure or fly fishing to make this trip even more memorable. Or alternatively, just sit back and relax, breathe in the scents of the prairie and spend some time in the wellness area. There's even a club for children, where they can play real cowboys, hunt for treasure and play rodeo games. At the end of the day, relax together in front of a roaring fire or in the saloon and soak up the friendly atmosphere: the ranch's guiding philosophy.

WYOMING AS A WARM-UP - JACKSON & YELLOWSTONE

Yellowstone is the oldest and arguably the most incredible national park in the United States. It's a wonderful stop before reaching the prairies of Montana. First, stop off at Jackson, a beautiful town with Wild West vibes to try line dancing, watch a rodeo and even go white water rafting. Then, discover Yellowstone National Park two ways: beside the lake and in the Mammoth Hot Springs area. Just after entering the park, visitors are confronted by the sight of a petrified forest dating from the Yellowstone fires of 1988. This area has the highest concentration of geothermal features on Earth. Geysers, fumaroles, lava flows, rivers and spectacular waterfalls create a unique biodiversity for an incredible array of wildlife: black bears, grizzlies, coyotes, wolves, elk and buffalo herds seem to emerge from the mist.

Route

Everything is 100% tailored to you
DAY 1

Flight to Jackson, Wyoming

Arrive at Jackson in the evening, a small town in Wyoming and a popular skiing destination with three resorts at an altitude of 6,230ft, surrounded by the snow-covered peaks of the Grand Teton to the west and the Gros Ventre Range to the east. The town, with its Wild West feel, traditional buildings and boardwalks, is still very picturesque and comes to life in the evenings with bustling bars and restaurants playing live country music. There are even rodeos in the summer months.
Collect your he hire car and spend a night at an unpretentious property downtown: a recently renovated motel with a stylish design.

DAYS 2 & 3

Jackson - Yellowstone National Park

Included in the itinerary - Wildlife viewing at dawn with a nature guide to spot moose, bison, antelopes, mule deer, wolves, black bears, grizzly bears, bald eagles and more.
Optional - Snake River white water rafting. Fly over Grand Teton National Park in a small plane.
Head north to Yellowstone, the oldest and arguably the most impressive national park in the United States. This former Native American refuge on the borders of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, is now a park where majestic bison graze among fumaroles (sulphurous gas vent), geysers, hot springs, mud pools and spectacular waterfalls and canyons.
Spend two nights near Yellowstone Lake and close to the famous Old Faithful geyser. This recently built lodge blends into the surroundings beautifully, and featuring a natural wood exterior and a stylish interior.

DAY 4

Yellowstone National Park

Head north of Yellowstone National Park and to the Mammoth Hot Springs area for one night in a simple, comfortable and friendly lodge, a former US cavalry post during the conquest of the Wild West. It's a relaxed mountain resort, sitting at the foot of the impressive limestone terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs.

DAY 5

Yellowstone National Park - Montana Ranch

Leave the park and Wyoming and head to Montana's vast wild prairies. You don't have to travel too far: about 20 miles north-west of Yellowstone and the Rocky Mountains turn into rolling prairies and ranches. Spend five nights in this stunning ranch with log cabins scattered over grounds of more than 50 acres. This is an experience in its own right, combining authenticity and comfort and leaving behind the modern world - the best way to enjoy Montana! Let the adventure begin...

DAYS 6 to 9

Montana Ranch

Things to do and experience - Practise yoga at sunrise. Riding through the awe-inspiring landscapes of the American West. Mountain biking. Try rodeo with a little help from some real-life cowboys from the ranch. Fly fishing in the beautiful river. Learn to hit a target in archery. Experience the ranch's big barbecue, just like in the movies. See a country music performance in the saloon. Roast marshmallows around the campfire and share your day's adventures with the guests and even the owners.

DAY 10

Montana Ranch - Bozeman

A fast northbound road along the Gallatin Highway to Bozeman, through hills, mountains and pine forests. The city owes its name to the local pioneer who built a road through South Western Montana, the Bozeman Trail, to connect the gold rush territory of Montana to the Oregon Trail. Today, this lively city is surrounded by hills and fir trees against a backdrop of snowy peaks and is one of the most beautiful spots in Montana, with a retro Wild West feel to boot.
Spend a night in the heart of the city, in an old motel that has been completely renovated in a modern style. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. There might be the occasional noise but that's the attraction of a motel's hustle and bustle after all. The amenities reflect the motel's welcoming, relaxed vibes: an outdoor lounge, a handy food truck in front of the motel and coffee at reception.
Must-see in Bozeman - The Museum of the Rockies, a museum of natural history renowned for housing the world's largest collection of dinosaur fossils.

DAYS 11 & 12

Bozeman - Return flight

Return your hire car to the airport and catch your flight home. Overnight flight, arriving the next day.

A la carte

RAFTING ON THE SNAKE RIVER

A fun, family adventure and breath of fresh air in the great outdoors. A thrilling combination of rapids and team work. Children and less adventurous people can sit in the centre of the raft, but more often than not, everyone gets stuck in and will want to go again!

Optional - Departing from Jackson

FLY OVER THE GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK

Stunning views across the wilderness of the Gros Ventre Mountains, Jacksonhole and the Teton range. This scenic flight takes you into the world of the legendary fur trappers and Native Americans who shaped these territories. The plane flies over a seven-mile long landslide that blocks the Gros Ventre River, creating the Lower Slide Lake. Fly over Sleeping Indian, a distinctive ridge on Sheep Mountain surrounded by thousands of wildflowers in the spring, and then Teton Pass to the Cathedral Group, with views of the three jagged peaks: Grand Teton, Middle Teton and South Teton.

Optional - Departing from Jackson

ALTERNATIVE OPTION - A SIGNATURE RELAIS & CHATEAUX RANCH

This ranch, surrounded by the wild prairies of Montana, halfway between Yellowstone and Glacier national parks, epitomises the new trend for stylish yet authentic Wild West accommodation. Everything is included: The delicious local cuisine as well as riding, archery, (superb) fly fishing, mountain biking, and tours to see moose, wolves and eagles. Relax in front of a crackling fire, around a pool table or in a bowling alley, next to the swimming pool or in the saloon after spending the day getting pampered at the spa. The owners often join guests, which adds to the super friendly atmosphere. And to continue this theme of authentic luxury, choose from a wide range of wonderful accommodation, from log cabins and large wooden houses, to glamping in large, luxurious tents on stilts, or simply a room in the main building. The ranch is the first glamping venue (and the only ranch in its class) to be ranked among the world's top hotels by the Forbes Travel Guide.
