Today is free for you to spend in Nairobi at your own leisure. If you loved Out of Africa, we recommend visiting the museum where author Karen Blixen lived between 1914 and 1931. The museum showcases memorabilia from Blixen's life, including original furnishings, photographs and personal belongings. However, the movie was filmed nearby, so don’t be too surprised if things look different from how you expect. Wave goodbye to the capital because today, you’re headed to the must-see Masai Mara National Reserve. A private transfer will take you to the airport, where a small aircraft will be waiting to whisk you into the wilderness. The final leg of the journey will take you to your camp, an intimate spot with stunning views over the game-filled plains. The rest of the afternoon is yours to spend as you wish, so settle into your elegant tent before exploring the camp and admiring the views of the Masai Mara.

Ease into your mornings in the Masai Mara with breakfast at camp, feasting on cheeses and meats as you watch the sunrise over the African savannah. The plains are teeming with activities, so after breakfast, tailor your two-day itinerary to your desires: embark on a full-day safari, pausing for lunch at scenic spots; explore riverbanks and diverse bird species while engaging with Maasai locals to learn about indigenous plant uses; ride horseback across the savannah, mingling with the wildlife; or observe animals in the swaying grasslands. Come evening, relax at your camp and enjoy delicious dinners under the stars.

Your final morning in the Masai Mara has rolled around, so bid farewell to the rolling plains and Kenya because today you’re travelling to Tanzania. Your first flight will take you to Migori, before a quick transfer to Tarime will see you board your second flight to the Serengeti airstrip. A final transfer will take you to your camp in the Serengeti National Park, situated on the path of the park’s greatest wonder – the annual wildebeest migration (where millions of hooves pound the open plains from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara). Settle into your tent, soak in the views and dine al fresco beneath the African skies.

Over the next two days, embark on a thrilling journey through the Serengeti National Park, immersing yourself in the wonders of the Tanzanian wilderness. Begin each day with an exhilarating game drive, spotting iconic wildlife like lions, elephants and giraffes roaming freely across the vast plains. If you can peel your eyes away for long enough, stop and take breaks to enjoy bush breakfasts within the serene landscape. In the afternoons, explore on foot during guided walking safaris led by knowledgeable rangers who will be eager to give insights into the park's ecosystem. Or, back at the camp, watch hippos lazily lounge in the river, before jumping into the swimming pool and enjoying your own refreshing dip.

Feast on a final savannah-side breakfast in the Serengeti because your journey to Zanzibar begins today. A quick flight will take you to the airport before transferring to the UNESCO-listed Stone Town on the western side of the island of Unguja. Check into your hotel, located a stone’s throw from the bustling market, shops and restaurants, where you can spend the remainder of your day exploring. When dinner time rolls around, ask your local Concierge to secure a table at one of Stone Town’s restaurants. Be sure to sample some of Zanzibar’s diverse culinary scene, from mishkaki (meat skewers) to mandazi (sweet, deep-fried dough balls).

Today, you’ll discover Stone Town on a walking tour alongside a knowledgeable local guide. Wind through the maze of narrow streets blending Swahili, Indian and Omani influences, and marvel at the elegant palaces and intricately carved wooden doors, reflecting the area's diverse heritage. Learn about its complex past, including its role in the East African slave trade, as you visit landmarks like the former sultan's palace and the historic slave market. By the end of the day, you’ll be experts in the rich history and architecture of Stone Town, so raise a glass to your new-found knowledge at one of the rooftop bars to catch an iconic Zanzibar sunset.

Leave Stone Town behind because today, a speedy transfer of around an hour and a half will take you to Jambiani, a seriously scenic cluster of villages on the island’s east coast. Your hotel gazes over the Indian Ocean, so check in, dump your bags and unwind at the beach bar or on your breezy veranda. If you’ve worked up an appetite, dine at the hotel’s beachfront restaurant, serving local specialities with a fusion-style menu.

Jambiani is all about losing track of time. Over the next two days, prepare to set aside technology as you embrace the rhythm of a traditional fishing village. We’ve left these days free for you to do as much or as little as you please, so simply relax on the powdery white beach or dive into the waters and snorkel (or scuba dive) among the colourful marine life. Explore the surrounding areas on a bike tour, or hop from beach bar to beach bar and make the most of juicy happy hour cocktails. However you choose to spend your time, Jambiani is sure to be the much-needed oasis after your action-packed safari adventures.

It's your final morning on Zanzibar’s east coast, so pack your bags and transfer to the airport. From here, you’ll catch a flight back to Nairobi (hello again, Kenya), where another transfer will be waiting to take you straight to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an elephant orphanage in Nairobi National Park. This is the only city-based national park in the world, where wide-open grass plains are set against a backdrop of skyscrapers. You’ll be able to watch orphaned elephants enjoy their milk feed and mud bath, gather for playtime and learn about their rehabilitation stories. After an inspiring visit, it’s time to head to the airport to catch your evening flight. After a busy day, we’re sure you’ll have no problem falling fast asleep.
