CANADIAN WINTER WITH THE FAMILY

When summer has given way to cooler temperatures and heavy snow, Eastern Canada is transformed and immersed in a magical atmosphere. This itinerary covers both the vast spaces - in the middle of the woods, between the lakes - and life in the cities of Quebec, the French-speaking region of the country. A winter discovery of Eastern Canada with the children.

Your trip - It begins with the largest city in the region, Montreal, and ends with the capital, Quebec City - both large, cosmopolitan cities. In between, you stop at Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, a municipality in the middle of Mauricie, a vast territory where the dense forest meets the most beautiful natural lakes in Quebec.
You also stop at La Malbaie, a peaceful resort on the St. Lawrence River where you can stroll along the cliffs and between the bourgeois mansions of another century. Everywhere, you set down your suitcases at hotels designed for families. Contemporary, welcoming and well-located hotels. On the shores of Lac-a-l'Eau-Claire, you sleep in a chic guesthouse in nature. A friendly chalet with a fireplace awaits you after, amid the magnificently coloured scenery, for a real trapper's lodge feel. To make life easier for the whole family, the pace of travel is flexible and international flights are direct. In your car, you have a GPS. We have already planned some highlights for your itinerary (to be adapted according to your wishes): discover the original Montreal with a local, a seaplane flight over the lakes of Mauricie, a dog sled ride - and everything is done privately. Our on-site Concierge can be reached at any time, in case of changes of plan.

Route

Everything is 100% tailored to you
DAY 1

FLIGHT TO MONTREAL

Private transfer to the hotel where you will stay for two nights. This hotel has a contemporary style, and its decor was created by a selection of local designers. There is a trendy rooftop bar with panoramic views unveiling the centre of Montreal right below.
Things to do and see - Kondiaronk lookout. From above, the views of the city and the St. Lawrence River are stunning. On a clear day, you can even see the Monteregian hills. The lookout could be the middle point in a stroll through Mount Royal Park.

DAY 2

MONTREAL

Included in the itinerary - Breakfast and a visit to the original Montreal with a resident. Before exploring the city, you will enjoy a hearty breakfast of smoothies, homemade muffins and jams, scrambled eggs, toast and hot drinks. You'll then walk down St. Denis and Duluth streets to meet your guide's favourite merchants before heading to Laval Street and its Victorian homes. The tour ends with St. Louis square, Lafontaine park and with a sense of having discovered a more personal Montreal.

DAY 3

MONTREAL - SAINT-ALEXIS-DES-MONTS

Pick up the rental car and drive to La Mauricie and Saint-Alexis-des-Monts. Two-night stay at a guesthouse on the banks of the immense Lac-a-l'Eau-Claire. The estate is dotted with cabins, lodges, condos and, in the centre, there is a restaurant, a lake view lounge and a small lookout. On site: there are many activities to do as a family, in the forest or on the lake - completely immersed in nature.

DAY 4

SAINT-ALEXIS-DES-MONTS

Included in the itinerary - Flying over the Lac-a-l'Eau-Claire area in a seaplane. By gaining height aboard a seaplane (that can take off on a frozen lake), it is possible to measure the vastness of the territory in a unique way and observe nature cloaked in white.

DAY 5

SAINT-ALEXIS-DES-MONTS - LA MALBAIE

Drive to La Malbaie and stay for three nights in a cabin in the middle of the forest. Enjoy complete comfort at the foot of the slopes of the Mont Grands-Fonds resort. The decoration is neat, the spaces are bright and the tranquillity is special: it's good to find yourselves here, all together.

DAYS 6 & 7

LA MALBAIE

Included in the itinerary - A private dog sled ride. This tour in the heart of the forest, in the Charlevoix Biosphere Reserve, offers a fairytale setting and unique views of the St. Lawrence River and the Laurentian mountain range. It is also an opportunity to observe the tracks of animals that inhabit the region: coyotes, foxes, beavers, hares and perhaps even wolves.
To do - A day of skiing at Mont Grands-Fonds.

DAY 8

LA MALBAIE - QUEBEC

Drive to Quebec City and stay for two nights in a modern hotel in the heart of Old Quebec. This Victorian-style hotel blends in with the neighbourhood's typical architecture. The interiors have been refurbished, as have the simple and elegant rooms. Of particular note is the indoor swimming pool.

DAY 9

QUEBEC CITY

Things to see and do - Located 15 minutes from Old Quebec, Parc de la Chute-Montmorency is one of the province's most spectacular sites. Between rivers and cliffs, it is an extraordinary place to discover on foot, by cable car or from the Manoir Montmorency. The majestic waterfall dominates the landscape. At 272ft high, it is 98ft higher than the Niagara Falls. In very cold weather, the fine splashes projected by the waterfall freeze and eventually form the famous Sugarloaf, an impressive ice cone, at the foot of the waterfall. The trails and lookouts offer excellent views of the St. Lawrence River, Ile d'Orleans and Quebec City.

DAYS 10 & 11

QUEBEC - MONTREAL - RETURN FLIGHT

Drive to Montreal and take a return overnight flight.

A la carte

Moose sighting in private helicopter in La Malbaie

Moose are very similar to deer, but their imposing size makes it possible to tell them apart. The helicopter is the most effective way to observe the world's largest cervid (mammal of the deer family) in its natural habitat. The knowledge of the territory, the expertise of the pilots and their respect for this impressive animal makes it possible to observe them without frightening them. A memorable adventure in this vast Quebec wilderness.
