Kenya at a glance

Wildlife is on Nairobi's doorstep. The famous photo of a cheetah that appears to be standing in front of a skyscraper was taken in Nairobi National Park, somewhere to visit as soon as you set foot in Kenya. It is neither the largest nor the most beautiful of Kenya's National Parks, but it certainly sets the tone, and has animals galore: rhinos, lions, antelopes, giraffes, zebras and buffaloes are all waiting there to welcome you. Following a visit here, choose which of Kenya's 52 other national parks to explore: the legendary Masai Mara (must-see: the amazing, beautiful and violent spectacle of migrating wildebeest crossing the Mara River); the wonderful Amboseli where elephants stroll against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro; Lake Nakaru National Park,
where a huge colony of flamingoes live alongside leopards and hippos; or perhaps the varied landscapes of the immense Tsavo National Park. Exploring the coast is another must: visit the beautiful city island of Mombasa, Watamu and Malindi beaches and the jewel in the crown, the charmingly peaceful Lamu Archipelago.
