The best Tanzania

This lodge has been beautifully adapted to the great outdoors and wildlife. The lodge features a magnificent terrace overlooking African nature. We offer you the brightest hues of safari – whether under canvas or in among the trees – they always epitomise the Manyatta spirit. After a stopover for rest and adjustment in the hinterland ofArusha, head to the Tarangire National Park to get in touch with some of Tanzania's best wildlife treasures. Next, the Ngorongoro Crater, a reserve established by volcanic activity millions of years ago. This is arguably the highlight of the trip because then comes the immense Serengeti:
wildebeest migrations, the Big Five, and Nile crocodiles. Enjoy incredible safaris at each leg of the trip. The luxurious lodge is complemented by animal-focused excursions. Then, it's time to fly to Zanzibar. There, in the south of Unguja, make your home in a sophisticated hotel. This is an unforgettable trip, from the great waves of antelopes to the playful pods of dolphins you'll see.

Your trip

The ultimate African experience isn't about the best rooms in hotels. From Lake Duluti to the Indian Ocean, via the Nogorongoro Crater, Tarangire's valley and the Grumeti Hills, it's all about being outside and being at one with nature. Nevertheless, we have carefully chosen original and elegant lodges throughout the trip, even in the most remote nooks. They all have an exceptional level of service. In Tarangire, Nogorongoro and Serengeti, safaris are already on your itinerary, with one at dawn and one at dusk, when the animals are most active. Vehicles are specially converted for viewing wildlife and the rangers are experts; Serengeti trackers, in particular, really are at the top of their game. A private dhow boat trip in the Menai Bay Conservation Area is a romantic bonus to your time in Zanzibar. A day of underwater safaris and idyllic beaches. The special welcome at Arusha and Zanzibar airports is particularly valuable and saves precious time. Transfers are by private car with a driver. If, along the way, you need any insights or tips, contact our local Concierge service for fast and professional advice and support.

Route

Everything is 100% tailored to you
DAY 1

Flight to Arusha

DAY 2

Arusha

Welcome and assistance with immigration and customs at the airport. Transfer to Lake Duluti Lodge, about six miles east of Arusha. The cottages, featuring a contemporary African style, are located on the north shore of a beautiful crater lake, in the middle of a vast coffee plantation. Large trees provide some much-needed shade and add some freshness to the hot temperatures. Rooms are perfectly equipped and the service is both thoughtful and efficient. The menu uses fresh ingredients from the local garden. The large infinity swimming pool and spa are a blessing after the flight. On calm waters, your first African sunset is an invitation to enjoy a dream-like peace. The safaris start tomorrow.

DAY 3

Arusha - Tarangire National Park

Transfer by 4x4 to Tarangire National Park. Two-night stay in a lodge on stilts. The rooms surround the main building like satellites, resting on an old baobab tree. Large bay windows and a balcony allow for viewing wildlife in their natural habitat - elephants and warthogs come to drink at the water hole located a little below the swimming pool. The bathroom is more than just a place to wash, it's one of life's pleasures. Enjoy dinner outside, under the stars and around the fire. In your own perch, you're are truly on top of the world with the animal kingdom below.

DAY 4

Tarangire National Park

Included in the itinerary - Tarangire National Park, the first safaris of your trip. This park is a calm wooded savannah, which allows you to easily watch the rich and thriving wildlife from your open-top vehicle, including lions, African bush elephants, plains zebras, Maasai giraffes, impalas, blue wildebeest, buffaloes, wild bush pigs, eland antelopes and waterbucks, while countless birds can be found on the wet banks of the Tarangire River. So, keep an eye out for those inseparable masked lovers, the brilliantly-coloured parakeets known as lovebirds. Termite mounds are very common in Africa and abandoned mounds are often used for shelter by dwarf mongooses.

DAY 5

Tarangire National Park - Ngorongoro Crater

Transfer to Ngorongoro. Overnight stay on the edge of the crater, in a hotel whose architecture has adapted that of the manyatta, with its Maasai huts of wood and dried mud, alongside all of the modern amenities you need for total comfort. Seeing the unique crater from the suite's balcony really is priceless.
Included in the itinerary - Safari in the Ngorongoro Crater. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of the wonders of the continent. With a diameter of over 12 miles, it's home to a remarkable array of flora and fauna. It has the two African species of rhinoceros, white (Ceratotherium simum) and black (Diceros bicornis).

DAY 6

Ngorongoro Crater - Serengeti National Park

Transfer to Lake Manyara airport and flight to Grumeti Hills. Two-night stay in a lodge where the spirit of the 1920s radiates with contemporary relevance. There are nine suites, furnished in the style of the golden age and decorated with Swahili antiques and the finest Maasai crafts. Zebras graze between tents and wildebeest sometimes invade the tennis court, on the other hand, the swimming pool, gym and wellness area are strictly reserved for humans. The chef's team can whip up delicious culinary creations including traditional Tanzanian flavours and East African influences.

DAY 7

Serengeti National Park

Included in the itinerary - Safaris in the Serengeti. This giant park is famous for the impressive wildebeest and zebra migrations that take place across the Tanzanian and Kenyan plains in November and July to August. The Big Five and The Lion King's favourite friends – Simba (the lion), Ma Tembo (the elephant), Nyati (the buffalo), Chui (the leopard) and Kifaru (the black rhino) – can all be found in the park. Chui may be stealthy, but the Serengeti is one of the best places to watch leopards in their natural habitat; the same goes for Duma (cheetah) and African wild dogs. Antelopes are the perfect prey and satisfy carnivorous predators' appetites; then come the hyenas, vultures and marabou storks who clean up what's left. It's a very well-organised world with a distinct hierarchy that you can discover from the top of your 4x4.

DAY 8

Serengeti Park - Zanzibar City - South Zanzibar

Transfer to Grumeti Hills airport and flight to Zanzibar. Welcome and assistance with immigration and customs at the airport. Transfer to the south for a four-night stay on one of Tanzania's best beaches. This accommodation epitomises contemporary architecture and the spirit of the country's east coast. A stylish place to have your feet in the water, with each bungalow having its own private swimming pool, but don't forget to enjoy the large infinity pool overlooking the ocean, too. Enjoy excellent facilities and modern amenities, and your own personal butler. Both restaurants offer up local flavours with elements of Mediterranean influences. Venture into the gardens and find the spa, where expert therapists will look after you.

DAYS 9 & 10

South Zanzibar

Bikes are a great way to explore the park and surrounding area, while pedalos, kayaks and small catamarans are perfect for sea adventures. A daily snorkelling session is organised by the hotel as well as yoga lessons. This area is a haven for kitesurfing and diving. Changuu Island is home to the most magnificent display of coral reef. When sailing, there's a good chance you'll see dolphins swimming and playing around the boat. In the Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, watch the red colobus monkeys of Zanzibar. This pretty, leaf-eating primate is the emblem of the environmental protection of the archipelago. Another notable species of the park are blue monkeys.

DAY 11

South Zanzibar

Included in the itinerary - A private dhow in the Menai Bay Conservation Area. Embark on a traditional dhow wooden boat from Zanzibar, with a private English-speaking guide. The sail is set for a marine reserve on the south-western coast of Zanzibar. Menai Bay Conservation Area covers a vast 180 square miles of crystal clear waters, tangled mangroves and white sandy beaches. It's a paradise for common bottlenose and humpback dolphins, plus turtles and dugongs also enjoy these shores. Dive into this shimmering world with a snorkel and mask; then, explore the mangroves in a traditional 'ngalawa' dugout canoe. The day ends with a stay on the beach, a pure tropical paradise.
