YOUR TRIP

From the majestic Jebel Akhdar to the high coastal road of Muscat, this tranquil Omani double experience condenses the sultanate's three assets: generous sunshine, pristine nature and exceptional hotels. This two-stage trip goes all the way up to the dizzying rocky ochre peaks of the Hajar, then its time to relax on the shores of the deep blue sea, and two of the country's most iconic locations. Like the unrivalled hotels of the Emirates, which are destinations in themselves, those of the Sultanate of Oman integrate the best of contemporary architecture with the breathtaking natural sites where they are situated. Through these places, discover a sumptuous and varied country, whose landscapes and civilisation have maintained a true sense of authenticity.
In Jebel Akhdar, the hotel's infinity pool borders the steep canyon, clinging to the side at over 6,500ft, while in Muscat, the infinity pool seems to stretch up to the horizon in the Gulf of Oman. A private Omani driver is provided, to travel the distance from one to the other in a comfortable air-conditioned 4x4 vehicle. The trip's two stages have a number of highlights including a private trek on the Saiq plateau in Hajar, an authentic introduction to Muscat with a local and a scenic road trip along the Omani coast. The rest of the time is free for you to choose between relaxing in cosy locations and exploring the surroundings. And if there are any special places you want to see or things you want to do, or something upsets the smooth journey, contact our local Concierge service, at any time.

YOUR ACCOMMODATION

JEBEL AKHDAR

Like a diamond in the rough, perched at an altitude of 6,500ft at the edge of a deep canyon, this stone and wooden hotel offers breathtaking views of the mountain, ragged gorges and highlands. The Omani fort is a central motif, where many elements of Middle Eastern architecture are redesigned in a spirit imbued with contemporary classicism. In the villas, each with a private swimming pool, elegance and sophistication combine with a high level of facilities for exceptional comfort. At the spa, the near and far Middle-Eastern traditions of care for the body are combined for the guests' greatest comfort and well-being by expert staff. Meals are created by staff who have the highest levels of expertise, whether it is the great talent of preparing haute cuisine meals or simple tapas, interpreting the national culinary heritage and receiving inspiration from Europe. A meditative hookah enjoyed under the starburst of a night sky is a moment of deep satisfaction. Today's luxury still allows for endless opportunities to experience authentic emotions.

MUSCAT

This Middle-Eastern dream was conceived as a design oasis, and now the unique hotel's fame has transcended the sultanate's borders. Just 20 minutes from Muscat airport, the change of scenery is immediate: shaded gardens, a very long, landscaped swimming pool that is further extended by the glittering waters of the Gulf of Oman and sumptuous desert and mountain surroundings. Here and there, the decorative elements bring together African myths, the mysteries of Asia and Middle-Eastern refinement. One of the two swimming pools is reserved for adults to ensure a quiet and serene atmosphere. The hotel also houses a spa where many treatments are provided that update the Arabian tradition of well-being. The main restaurant's cuisine juggles Mediterranean and Asian flavours. For snacks or light meals, turn to the straw pool huts, where service is impeccable under palm trees or stars. At night, this idyllic setting becomes even more magical, illuminated with thousands of candles.

DAY 2

Muscat - Jebel Akhdar

You can look forward to a warm welcome and priority clearance through customs formalities at Muscat airport, Be driven across the Hajar to the Jebel Akhdar mountains in a comfortable air-conditioned 4x4 vehicle with a guide. It takes about two and a half hours without stopping, but it's definitely worth taking a few breaks along the way to explore the beautiful sights of the inland areas. For example: the old village of Birkat Al Mouz, its palm grove and its traditional irrigation system, the 'falaj', that's still in use today.
Included in the itinerary - Private day tour of the towns and villages of Hajar. The city of Nizwa can be found at the bottom of a valley thick with palms and flanked by the highest peaks of Oman. As recently as 50 years ago, tourists did not venture into this ultra-conservative city. The sultanate's second largest city was recently modernised after a major urban development project but has not lost its historical character or originality. It's pleasant to visit since it has opened up to the world and to tourism. A detour through Nizwa will also reveal Oman's rich architectural heritage. Many citadels and forts built during the Yaruba dynasty in the 17th century reveal Portuguese influence. The road around the old city's fort offers panoramic views of the Hajar mountains and the dome of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. Continue through the mountains, to the village of Misfat Al Abriyeen. Surrounded by palms and hanging from the side of a canyon beside the small town of Al Hamra, Misfat Al Abriyeen is one of the most beautiful villages in the country. Take the opportunity to meet the inhabitants and visit a traditional Omani house, located in the heart of the ancient city.
Then, climb to reach the Saiq plateau, at the top of Jebel Akhdar. Three-night stay in a luxurious hotel with a distinct character, perched on the impressive plateau, some 6,500ft above sea level. It is a chic and fashionable contemporary eagle's nest. Scattered across the cliff-side, the attractive swimming pool and 78 stone suites and villas are all part of their surroundings in the dizzying heights. Inside, warm tones match contemporary shapes as well as traditional crafts. Dark wooden furniture and carved marble bathtubs blend well with woven baskets and works from the local pottery maker. Take time to admire the wilderness and plunging canyons of the beautiful mountain from your shaded balcony.

DAY 3

Jebel Akhdar

Known poetically as the 'green mountain with three hundred wadis', Jebel Akhdar is generally considered as traditional Oman. It was the Bani Riyam tribe who worked the land that could be cultivated and made the area famous for growing roses, pomegranates, apricots and olive trees. The essential irrigation by a system of underground aqueducts called 'falaj' has been in place for a long time. From village to village, discover a surprisingly sophisticated, fertile and beautiful mountain life.

The Omani capital is the point of transition between desert and sea as well as past and modernity. Embedded in ochre limestone ravines, the waters of Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi, two parallel wadis that descend from eastern Hajar, have the clarity and colour of emeralds. They flow between date palms and banana trees, framed by steep cliffs, they spring off mounds of boulders, falling and curling into natural pools. This region is one of the most scenic in the country and is particularly great for hiking and swimming.
