FAR FROM THE CROWS LIE THE LYNGEN ALPS

The Scandinavian Alps are a pristine area that stretches as far as the Lyngen Peninsula, along a fjord where dolphins jump alongside migratory birds. Skiing here with the deep blue sea on the horizon is a memorable experience that warrants visiting this well-kept secret in northern Norway. The mountain range is between 3,280ft and 5,905ft above the glacial valleys. It is also a fishing area and home to the Sami people, who proudly defend their authentic traditions. It's not uncommon to catch wild cod from the depths while fishing in the great outdoors. It's also one of the most famous places in the world to see the Northern Lights.

YOUR TRIP

The idea of this winter break is to go to a place away from the world that visitors in search of adventure will love,
without compromising on a certain level of comfort. Surrounded by mountains that shimmer like a mirage, the large lodge houses only eight bedrooms. The lodge is all about informal luxury; it's not uncommon to come across guests wearing thick socks, snuggled by the fire at the end of the day. A true living space, the spacious fireplace brings guests together to share their daytime experiences in the great outdoors. In the living room, large windows look out to the fjord and alpine peaks: the majestic background contrasts with the cosy interior, which is inspired by Norwegian tradition and contemporary style. The cuisine comprises game and fish from the fjord; the stars on the menu are reindeer and smoked salmon.

In your Nordic itinerary - Sports, clean air, pristine snow and lots of time together. Cross-country skiing, dog sledding and adventures on snowshoes are broken up by lunches in the middle of nowhere, in a lavvu (sami style tent) or around a large wood fire. Your guides have left their native Austria or Sweden; they are outdoor enthusiasts who are now eager to share their passion for this secret little corner of Norway. During the trip, activities and meals are planned and included: everything is perfectly organised so you can focus on the thing that matters the most - your journey across the far north. The itinerary has three planned activities - dog-sledding, adventures on snowshoes and ice fishing. These can all be adapted to suit your interests.

OSLO IN A NUTSHELL

Nestled between fjord and forests, Oslo combines contemporary architecture and Scandinavian spirit. Oslo is a quiet and trendy oasis and a great place for art lovers to explore; it has a collection of galleries and museums including the Munch-museet, the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum for Art, Architecture and Design and the Fram Museum on the Bygdoy Peninsula. With a mixture of urban downtown, countryside and sea, the Norwegian capital is home to gigantic buildings in picturesque villages, and islands nestled deep in the pine and larch forests. There's always a focus on nature. To make the most of your time in the city, we have scheduled a few hours with a resident of Oslo, for a special tour of their city. It's like seeing the original capital, but with subtitles. You'll also be provided with an Oslo Pass, which gives access to free public transport and discounts for some museums, restaurants, tours, and shops. Our favourite things to do? Dining at one of the capital's most popular restaurants - a table has been booked for you.

Route

Everything is 100% tailored to you
DAY 1

Flight to Oslo

Welcome on arrival, private transfer and two nights' accommodation in the heart of the Norwegian capital. Your hotel is a true Scandinavian palace, combining Gustavian and Victorian styles. Owned by the same family since the early 20th century, its unique charm and good restaurants continue to make this a destination of choice.
Included - Your Oslo Pass, to get the most out of the capital's culture. The 48-hour pass offers free access to some 30 sites and museums, public transport, municipal swimming pools, and walking routes. Discounts are also available in selected restaurants and shops.

DAY 2

Oslo

Spend a day exploring Oslo, including the castle, the Royal Palace, the National Gallery of Fine Arts, the Munch Museet, the Vigeland Sculpture Park and the trendy Hegdehaugsveien district.
In the itinerary - A few hours with a local guide Passionate about Norway, your guide knows Oslo by heart, from the hotspots to the capital's best-kept secrets. This meeting involves an improvised walk around the city, talking about daily life in Norway and handy tips for the rest of the journey.
Just for you - Dinner reservation at the trendy Louise Restaurant, located on the old Aker Mek construction site. The cuisine strikes a balance between Norwegian tradition and international flavours - and the decor pays tribute to the sea, echoing the view overlooking the boats. Further afield, you'll visit the fjord and the Akershus fortress.

DAY 3

Oslo - Lyngen Alps

Private transfer to the airport and flight to Tromso, the largest Scandinavian city within the Arctic Circle. From there, take another private transfer (about two hours) to reach your lodge on the banks of the Lyngen fjord, not far from the small village of Olderdalen. Spend four nights in this untouched and wild setting of the Scandinavian Alps, far from the world.

DAYS 4 to 6

Lyngen Alps

Beyond the Arctic Circle, this stunning part of the far north is best visited in winter. Three full days here allows you to enjoy a large serving of clean air, lose track of time, enjoy a rare natural environment of forests, snow and frozen lakes, and rediscover a pure and deep silence to help you relax.
In the itinerary - Dog sledding. Following the impatient barks of the husky dogs ready to embark on a mad dash, the Arctic's nature reveals itself in all its splendour, with the only noise being the squeak of the sled and panting of the dogs. Halfway through, a break is scheduled to gather your strength, and those who are sharing a sled can switch places. Because steering a sled and watching nature while sitting in the sledge are two complementary experiences, and two ways of soaking up the landscape. For another experience in the snowy forests (and more squeaking snow), a snowshoe hike is also planned. You'll have access to the frozen Arctic forests surrounding the lodge, where you might be lucky enough to spot the tracks of animals (moose, lynx and wolverine), and reach high viewpoints to enjoy the views of the Lyngen Peninsula National Park. Finally, an introductory session to ice fishing is a true trapper experience.
Option - A photography safari in the fjords, searching for the Northern Lights - a cross-country ski outing.

DAY 7

Lyngen Alps - Return flight

Return private transfer to Tromso and return international flight via Stockholm.

A la carte

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

The area surrounding the lodge is home to the Nordic national ski team's training area. A professional will be available to help you learn to ski or improve your skiing skills before you are unleashed into the great outdoors.

Optional

PHOTOGRAPHING THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

A night workshop especially for photography enthusiasts, which will teach you the best techniques for capturing the red, green or white spectra that wave across the starry night sky. Equipment can also be borrowed on-site.

Optional

WITH A FEW EXTRA DAYS - TROMSO

If you are not pushed for time, we recommend that you extend your trip to Tromso for one more night. As a university city and one of the largest cities inside the Arctic Circle, it is one of the few cosy and welcoming cities in the North. Its environment makes it particularly suitable for viewing the Northern Lights. By extending your stay there, you'll also have the chance to visit the Polaria Museum, a polar aquarium with unique architecture representing blocks of ice in the sea. Discover Arctic flora and fauna, with a special focus on the bearded seal.

Optional
