Bergen: the Gateway to the Fjords
Built in the 11th century, Bergen started as a charming small town and soon became the most important crossroad for trade in Scandinavia. Since then, this stunning city has capitalised on its provincial charm and travellers who come here can expect to discover a historic city with a relaxed atmosphere, deeply rooted in nature. Tucked between seven mountains and Norway’s two largest fjords, Bergen is known as ‘the heart of the fjords’ and is the perfect place to begin exploring. The rainbow-hued Hanseatic Wharf in the old town brims with bustling shops and restaurants and is a reminder of Bergen’s trading past.

During your stay you can go exploring from the hotel, on foot or by bike, on routes which can take from 40 minutes to four hours. There is a seemingly endless amount of scenery to explore. The hotel also has wooden boats and kayaks for rent. Be sure to explore the picturesque and baronial garden of Rosendal Manor. The hotel spa has sublime views out over the fjords from its large bay windows. It offers a range of natural treatments made with seaweed, sea salt or essential oils. Bergen
Take a stroll around the old Hanseatic era harbour, Bryggen, and visit the museum that brings the 18th Century merchant league 'kontore' (counting house) back to life. Mariakirken (St. Mary's Church), built in the 12th and 13th centuries, was the church of German merchants for a long time. And have you ever heard of Dolk, Norway's best graffiti artist? He was very active in the town and it still shows. Troldhaugen, the former home of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, is now a museum dedicated to the composer of Peer Gynt. The Leprosy Museum, housed in St. George's Hospital (18th century), may not appeal at first glance, but it is truly fascinating and chronicles how the bacterium responsible for the disease (Mycobacterium leprae) was isolated in Bergen by Gerhard Armauer Hansen in 1873.
Included in the itinerary is a private tour of the Hanseatic district of Bryggen, the fish market and the Old Town.
Os
Now it's time to head off to Os on a fast boat (one hour). Enjoy a first-hand experience of the fjords from a hotel bordered by water and nature, with a splendid view of the glacier. Located on the banks of the Bjornefjord, the hotel was built in 1896 in Swiss chalet style. Everything there recalls the pure and pleasant Belle Epoque. Your room is simple and comfortable, overlooking the garden, fjord and glacier. Entry to the spa to experience bathing rituals is included in the itinerary.
