Treasures of Alsace in spring

Each season Alsace reveals a new face. And while winter reminds us of Germany's proximity and taste for tradition, spring is a special time to explore the region. Strasbourg and Colmar are both appealing cities. The canals, the medieval quarter of Petite France, and the cathedral all contribute to Strasbourg's charm. The alleyways, half-timbered houses, and Renaissance facades rank second among France's most Instagrammable cities. In terms of nature, the region boasts many gifts as well. From the ridges and forests of the Vosges to the north, to the southern hills and the Kochersberg countryside, the diversity of landscapes is a real feast for the eyes. Alsace is also a treat for the taste buds, boasting Michelin-starred restaurants and classified vineyards scattered throughout the region.

Designed for curious and epicurean travellers, this Alsatian journey combines the best of the region with a contemporary feel. Firstly, Vosges in the north, experienced through the lens of famous glass designer, Rene Lalique; Strasbourg, the city and its back country; then finally Colmar and its vineyards as the final stop. It's a hedonistic journey focused on gourmet pleasures - including Chef Jean-George Klein's three Michelin-star restaurant, as well as staying in luxury design hotels. Private or unguided experiences balance all that hedonism out. Visits to the famous vineyards are done in a classic 70s Volkswagen Kombi.

DAYS 1 & 2

Wingen-sur-Moder

Pick up your hire vehicle and drive to the Vosges mountains in Wingen-sur-Moder. Rene Lalique, the grand master of the French crystal industry, had a splendid villa built in this wilderness setting in 1920. Now transformed into a sophisticated hotel with six suites, it has preserved the Art Deco atmosphere and embodies the avant-garde spirit of the designer. Villa Lalique is also home to Jean-George Klein's three Michelin-star restaurant, which boasts a cellar of 12,000 prized bottles. Your Alsatian trip will begin in this privileged setting.

DAY 3

Strasbourg

Return to the city. Spend the day exploring Strasbourg at your leisure, and in particular the medieval quarter of Petite France, built for the tanners and millers of the time. Our end-of-day tip: climb the 330 steps of the cathedral to watch the sun set over the rooftops from the 217ft-high platform. Gaze out at the colourful facades and the Black Forest in the distance.

DAY 4

Strasbourg

Included in the itinerary - A day to explore the backcountry with a private guide. The sloping plane of Arzviller, the Episcopal City of Saverne, a visit to a crystal factory and meeting a glassblower. At the end of the day, you'll reach Colmar and your last stop, an elegant hotel housed in a historic Renaissance building.

DAY 5

Colmar - Wine Route

Included the itinerary - wine tasting experience This morning you'll discover two great Alsatian estates alongside a wine professional who will introduce you to the secrets of the cultivation process. A vintage Volkswagen Kombi will be your chariot for the day, taking you from vineyard to vineyard. It's a relaxed version of the Alsatian wine trail.

DAY 6

Colmar

In the morning, discover Colmar on your own: the neighbourhoods of Little Venice and the Fishmonger District, with its rows of half-timbered houses bordering the Lauch River.
